Today we had to rush to make it to the location where we would be picked up for our tour, but thankfully we made it in time, there we were met by a big bus, where our Guide Julie welcomed us and started telling us about Korea and the Korean War, whilst we drove to the DMZ. after about an hour, we arrived at our first stop a lake suspension bridge which was nice, but was not in the DMZ, we spent some time there before getting back in the bus to go to the Peace park, where we learned a little bit more and met a North Korean defector who told us some of her story of how she escaped North Korea and the differences between there and South Korea.
Next we drove to the DMZ, first going through a passport check by the South Korean military, before driving to the lookout point, there unfortunately it was foggy, so we could only see the southern border of the DMZ, but we learnt more about how the DMZ worked, before heading to the third tunnel, there we walked down 300 meters down, and through a short tunnel, where I had to crouch to get to the end, but Ji could stay standing, obviously a tunnel designed for Koreans, not europeans.
As we headed back to Seoul, we stopped briefly to have some lunch where I ordered some tteoboki which was so spicy my mouth almost spontaneously combusted, but thankfully I survived. after arriving in Seoul we walked around the city and went to a night market to try and find some Dalgona, which was much harder to find than anticipated, and when we did find a stall we weren’t able to eat them fresh, so we took some to go hoping to eat them later.
For dinner we went to a Korean fried chicken place, where we had great korean fired chicken, or just normal fried chicken for them, before heading home quite full.
