Day 21 – Kathmandu

30th August 2017

We woke up an hour before our alarm would’ve gone off. We pack our stuff and go down for breakfast. The guide shows up and takes us on our journey, however, he left right before the first one. The driver takes us an hour and a half away from the city to the top of some mountains. Normally, in good weather, we would have been able to see the city and mountains from where we were. Unfortunately, there were a bunch of clouds so we sat at the cliff for about half an hour waiting for it to clear up a little bit. It eventually did, we took our pictures and went back to the bumpy road.

He stopped again for a shorter stop with a lot of stairs and a viewpoint. Where we had to climb up a rickety tower to get better pictures. Following this, we got back on the roads and visited the city of Bhaktapur, a Unesco site. There we walked around for an hour and a half looking at the architecture of all the different buildings around the city and visiting some of the cool different shops ranging from woodwork to pottery to metalwork. Just as we were about to leave the city we lost our driver and spent 20 mins looking for him, until we decided to find a place with wifi to be able to call him. Thankfully we found a restaurant and managed to meet up with him.

Our next stop was the Boudhanath stupa, a giant monument dedicated to Buddha. Finally, we headed back to the hotel where we tried to swim in the rooftop pool overlooking the city. Unfortunately, the water was so cold that we only ended up spending a total of 2 minutes in the pool before we headed back down to warm up.
