Today we were woken up by the birds chirping outside at around 6am and had to start packing the inside of our tent, putting away our sleeping bags and organising everything into our bags. Once that was all done, we took everything out of the tent and started dismantling it and packing it away, before helping our fellow tour mates.
After bringing all our stuff to the mules, we went to breakfast where they served us ham and cheese tortillas. We left our camp at around 8 and started continuing the journey we had started the previous day down the valley.
As we started it was quite cold, as we were in the shade, but eventually the same came out and started warming us up, maybe a bit too much as I seem to have 2 or 3 sunburns.
Our journey through the valley was about 16km long, during which we followed the river, at one point crossing it through a metal bridge. We hiked for about 6 hours to reach Casa de piedra our camp for the night.
There we set up our tents, and almost became homeless when it almost flew away, making us have to wrestle it back down to the ground in the strong wind. Finally after 30 mins of struggling to get our tent to stay fixed, we managed to set it up correctly and help our other group members do the same.
As it was only 3pm the sun was shinning strongly on our tent, and it was like a sauna, which made it impossible to stay inside of it. Unfortunately the mess tent had the same problem, so we stayed in the shade of the mess tent, until the mess tent got a bit cooler and we were able to go in and take a quick nap.
Thankfully this camp is nicer than our previous one, so we were able to take advantage of the showers, which washed off all the sweat, suncream, and dust that the wind was constantly blowing into to us throughout the last 2 days. That is also the first time i was able to do damage control on my 2 blisters, (one for each foot) and discover that they were way bigger than i though, and it is only day 2 of 20!
For dinner they served us some pasta with tomatoes and vegetables in the mess tent, before giving us a briefing for the following day and telling us we would have to get up at 5:45am tomorrow. We then got our blood oxygen levels tested before playing a quick game of uno and going to our tents for an early night.
