Today we were woken up as usual by our porters at 6:30 to get ready and have our breakfast. following breakfast, we headed off towards base camp, our last stop before the summit. We left at 8:10 am on our 8km trek. About halfway there we crossed the wreckage of a passenger plane, that had crashed 6 years prior, killing all the passengers (a group of 4 Italians) but leaving the pilot unharmed.

As we continued our journey, we started walking slowly to get acclimatized, but also because it became harder to walk under the bright sun and I started having a headache.

After a 4h trick we finally arrived at Kibo huts, which is located at 4700m, almost 1000m below Gilman’s point, and 1200 below Uluru peak (which means freedom, because, on the day of Tanzania independence, a Tanzanian climbed to the top and planted the flag at that point) We signed at the camp and had our packed lunches while the porters were making our tents. After a quick cup of tea we were able to go in the tent, in there I washed quickly with the wet sponges before packing my day pack and preparing my clothes for tonight. I then went to take a nap at 2 pm to get as much energy as possible for the summit. after my 2h nap, we went to the mess tent at 4 pm for tea and our briefing for the summit bid. There they took our vitals one more time, following that we had dinner and went to bed at 6 pm to get 5h sleep before our summit bid.
