Today we started our descent into the city of Kathmanduy surrounded by mountains and clouds hugging the hills as they rushed past our window. After landing at the airport, we were met with the best bus we have ever taken, used to make us travel 40 meters.
We managed to get our visas on arrival and made it through immigration in one piece, collecting all our stuff which had made it safely. OUr next challenge was to get a taxi, which due to difficulties in communication was easier said than done, but our taxi driver was a trooper and after 15 mins found us, in his tiny car that looked like it was falling apart.
Our taxi ride took us to the hotel, where at 7:30 it was too early to check in, so we dropped our bags and decided to go visit a few temples across Kathamdnu.
Our first stop was the Buddanah Stupta, the biggest stupta, where we walked around the perimeter turning the prayer wheels whilst surrounded by the locals which had come to pray.
For our next stop we visited Kathmandu Durbar square, where we saw old pagodas surrounded by thousands of pigeons which called it their home, as well as many stray dogs just chilling in the sun living their best lives.
Our final stop for the morning was at the monkey temple, which at the top of a hill, allowed us to get a beautiful view of the city below, whilst being surrounded by monkeys which lived in and around the monastery.
At about 12 after a busy morning touring kathmandu, we headed back to the hotel where we had lunch with some momos, dumplings from nepal. We then took a brief nap before doing some shopping and getting ready to meet our group at 5:30, the other people embarking on this adventure to everest base camp.
At 5:30 it was time to meet our group, so we went to the restaurant where we had an introduction to the plan for the next 2 weeks, including some changes to the schedule due to this being the busy season for Everest Base Camp, and we would be leaving from another airport in the valley, about 4h drive away.
Following dinner we all went to a 5 course dinner to try some local foods.
