Day 9 – Dingboche Acclimatisation day

15th October 2023

Today was supposed to be a more relaxing day so we can better get used to the altitude, this meant we had finally a chance to sleep in! (until 8am that is) we got up and had breakfast before meeting our guide for our morning acclimatisation hike, a short hike, only 2 hours long.

We started walking from our hotel towards the stupas on the hill opposite and climbed to the top where you could see a beautiful view of all the mountains surrounding us. Our guide then told us about every mountain and how high they were. Our next stop took us higher so we could get better used to the altitude, there we took a break before going past a monastery outpost on our way back down into the village.

Once back int he village we had lunch, before we were able to have a hot shower our first in 4 days (which you have to pay for of course). After that nice shower I took a nap, before going back to the mess hall to be warmed by yak poo and play some games with the other people in our group. Our guide even taught us some local card games.

after dinner we decided to go take pictures of the stars so we got dressed up and walked up to the first stupa where we set up the camera and started to take pictures, but unfortunately just as we started a cloud rolled over us and we weren’t able to see anything, thankfully it cleared up and we were able to take a few pictures before another one replaced it and we decided it was time to go back to the hotel for some sleep.
