Day 2 – Lake Naivasha

31st December 2016

Today we woke up early to grab breakfast at our hotel before our 8 am departure. at 8 am we were able to gaze upon the bus we would be spending the next 2 weeks in, and after helping load our baggage in, I was able to choose a pair of seats to myself at the back.

We first got on and drove for 30 mins to go to a shopping mall, where we bought some stacks and water, as well as the ingredients for a good mojito (for New Years) we also bought the shared ingredients we would be using for our meals. And just as we were heading out back to our bus, I somehow managed to get ourselves lost by entering the parking from the wrong exit.

After finding the bus we drove for 2h to our camp in Lake Naivasha, luckily I managed to grab a nap on the journey there, so I was ready to help out on my first duty in the kitchen.

We first set up our tents (improvising as we went) before taking our bags from the bus and bringing them into our tents. I then went to help out in the kitchen, where we were asked to wash and clean the vegetables, before cutting them up, ready for people to make their own sandwiches with the ingredients we had prepared.

We all sat around a table as we ate lunch and told stories of our previous G adventure trips. At 3 pm we hopped on to a tiny boat, 6 of us on each boat, and went out exploring the lake with our guide. We searched for different types of birds and we were looking for Hippos which resided in the lake. We also ended up finding water buffaloes and zebras among the local fishermen. The hippos didn’t like to stay out of the water for too long, so we just managed to get a glimpse of their heads as they popped out to take a breath.

After the tour, we started all drinking our own personal drinks and telling stories, before a campfire was made for us to hang out around, where we played drinking games.

For dinner, we had barbecue chicken and beef, which was delicious, which we ate around the fire. at about 10 pm we heard there was a party on the campsite bar for New Years, so we went over and I managed to get some wifi so I did my last geeking of 2016 before we jumped into the new year by jumping from our chairs, which apparently is a dutch tradition.

After all the celebrations, I headed off to my tent to sleep, without a sleeping bag, because I had not bought one with me.
