Day 6 – Chimpanzee trecking

4th January 2017

today was another early day, where we grabbed a light breakfast, before heading into the jungle which was next to our camp at 6:30 am, to try and see chimpanzees.

We were first split into 3 groups of around 7 before heading along a slippery path in the jungle going up and down through the forest. After about 30 minutes of tracking, we reached a feeding tree, where we were able to admire a Lon male chimpanzee, sitting high above in the branches, just eating and relaxing. We stayed there for quite a while catching his best angles before we continued our track to find more chimps. After some more walking, we came across a tree where 3 of them were just eating and screaming at each other.

After a while int he forest, it was time to head off so we followed our guide, who used a machete to cut a new path for us through the jungle and out onto the tea plantations fields, where they explained how the tea is used to be cultivated, and how it is done now with more modern methods.

We then returned to our camp around lunch, where we had brunch, which consisted of meatballs and potatoes, once again very good. After eating and washing all the dishes (today was my day on dishwashing duty with my team), we packed up everything and got back on the bus for a 4h drive. We stopped on the way, where I bought some more samba crips, thanks to other people on our tour who had noticed them, and knew I really liked them.

We arrived at our beautiful camp next to the lake, at around 5, we set up camp and I took 2 mattresses for my tent to make myself a double bed since we were staying there for a few days. I then walked around to get photos and used the wifi before dinner, but unfortunately, the dinner ended up only being vegetables. following dinner, we had our briefing to prepare us for the gorilla trick, which we would be doing the next day.
