Day 13 – Lake Nakuru National Park

11th January 2017

Today we woke up early once again to have breakfast and be ready to leave our campsite by 7 am, to Lake Nakuru. We drove for about 3 hours in our bus and stopped halfway to do some shopping and meet our new CEO, Justice who would be covering the last few days as Caroline was still feeling unwell.

Just before entering the park, we stopped for our sandwiches at a curio shop, which had crazy prices, Nathan kept being chased by the owner to buy a $4000 ebony elephant for “good price”

We then went on into the park, with our bus to see the animals, but almost as soon as we entered I felt the need to poo, diarrhoea had just gotten me (maybe from he samosas?) so I had to force the bus to stop in the middle of the reserve so I could go in the Bush, being the bus in a ditch, while someone watching out for animals. Thankfully after that, I felt a bit better, and we got to see zebras, including one that had been bitten in the arse by a lion and had survived. We also saw impalas and water buffalos, as we continued we stopped next to the lake to get photos of the flamingoes and rhinos, so we got out of the bus and saw some pumbas (which means stupid, because rumbas when running for their lives, will forget why they are running and turn back around). our next stop was a viewpoint where we saw some monkeys.

As we continued our trip through the bush, we didn’t see any other animals and left the park to go to our campsite for the night, which was right next door to the reserve. We set up our tents for the last time and went inside to grab our dinner. Following dinner, we had our final briefing by Patrick and justice and prepared the tips. We were then shown an acrobatics show by some local including some fire-spitting. after the show, some local artisans came in and showed us what they had made, I bought a giraffe stuffed toy for Jamie.

After that we headed outside next to the campfire and roasted marshmallows, I taught Emma someone who was on the tour how to do astrophotography. we then talked for a while before going to bed at 2 am.
