Day 16 – Hue

16th April 2023

Today we took a 3hr bus  through he foggy mountains. to drive us to our next destination, Hue. When we arrived, we dropped off our stuff, grabbed lunch before we got ready for the afternoon.

We were met outside of our hotel by a gang of motorbikes and told to choose a key out of a helmet, and hold it up so our driver could find us. Once I found mine, I sat on the back of his motorbikes as we started our journey, first leaving the city to go through some little villages next to the rice until we reached our first stop.

Our first stop was a rice museum, where we saw a demonstration of how rice was harvested and processed into what we eat almost every day here. From there we got back on the back of our motorcycles and drove through rice paddies and little villages in the hills, until we reached bunker hill. Bunker hill is the location of 3 american bunkers, we could crawl in or look at the beautiful view from. Next we got to see how incense and rice paddy hats were made.

Next we drove again to an arena where they used to fight elephants and tigers, however they would weaken the tiger first to make sure the elephant won, as it was the sign of the monarchy. Next we visited a pagoda and got to explore for a bit around before it was time to head back to the hotel on our motorbikes, there we drove through the city as it got busier for rush hour, however it was Sunday so it was a tame rush hour.

For dinner we ate at a local restaurant near the hotel.
