Day 19 – Ha Long Bay

19th April 2023

Today our train arrived in Hanoi, at around 6am after a long night where it was difficult to get any sleep, due tot he train rocking and being quite loud. We then boarded a bus for a 4hr journey to Halong bay, where I was able to get another hour of sleep, bringing my total for the night to 2hr!

When we got there we grabbed breakfast and were able to freshen up and take a shower before it was time to go to the port and jump on board of our cruise for the day.

As we departed the port, we sailed towards the island which we could barely make the outline of through the fog, as we sat in the inside of the boat we were served a buffet of foods, that just kept coming way past the point of us being full, it was a lot of food but very tasty.

As we arrived in Halong bay, the pillars of stone started to show through the fog and our boat navigated through them so we could see some of the different parts of Halong bay whilst they told us what some of the different pillars represented like 2 fighting chickens. We then stopped at one of the little islands to go on a walk through one of the caves there and enjoy the stalactites.

Next our boat dropped us off at a pontoon on the water, where we boarded our kayaks and kayaked through the bay into these caverns which led to a secluded lagoon in between the rocks faces. We kayaked for about an hour before kayaking back to our boat, and back to the city.

For dinner we decided to get hot pot, which might have been a mistake because it was entirely too hot for hot soup and made me overheat, but it was tasty!
