Today we got up and took another 4hr bus journey back to Hanoi, where upon arriving we were able to drop off our bags at the hotel, before going on a walk of the city and some of its neighbourhoods to learn more about Hanoi. There we stopped for lunch at a famous Ban Mi place (meat sandwiches) and got a delicious pork banmi. after this lunch we continued walking around the city and decided to visit the temple located on an island in the middle of the lake at the centre of Hanoi.
In the afternoon, we went back into the city and went to a water puppet show, where they acted mythological scenes using the 4 sacred animals of Vietnam (the unicorn, dragon, turtle and the phoenix) as well as traditional scenes such as the rice harvest. the show was suprisingly good! After the show we started our street food tour of Hanoi, eating our way through 6 different foods across the city. We first started by going to a noodle place which made pork noodles which were delicious (and the best option of the day) before going to a Vietnamese pancake restaurant where we took the pancake and rolled it into a spring roll and ate it. Next we went to a Ban mi place, which was good too but a bit spicier. After this we got sticky rice with coconut ice cream, before trying rice beer, Papaya beef salad and finally egg coffee (or in my case egg hot chocolate) which tasted like a meringue hot chocolate.
