Day 13 – Wadi Rum

27th July 2021

At around 830 we got into the bus on our way to Wadi Rum, we were hoping to be able to take a nap, but the bus kept stopping for photo stops, so we weren’t able to catch up on sleep. finally, just as we started to be able to sleep, we were woken up for lunch. We went into a local petrol station restaurant which was very warm and had no English menu.  We ordered a chicken sandwich to share for which we had to remove the coriander because coriander is evil.

We got back onto the bus and drove to the desert where we stopped at a Bedouin Camp. We got out of the bus and took our overnight bags, which we put in the 4×4 we would be taking to our overnight camp. Five of us hopped onto the back of one of the 2 jeeps and we drove through the sand to the camp where we would be staying overnight. We got there and were shown to our rooms which were boiling so I decided to leave it open to vent it out.

After 10 mins we went to the main tent where we were served boiling tea and watermelon. At 4:30 we met again with the jeeps and hopped onto the back of them for our 4h safari tour. The jeeps departed for an adventure through the desert where we stopped at different beautiful locations including some that had been used to shoot some movies such as The Martian or Star Wars. We were nearing the end of a tour and we stopped by a giant arch to take photos on the top of it before driving to a spot where we could see the sunset.

Once the sun disappeared over the horizon we drove back to our camp, there waiting for us was a campfire, so I laid down on one of the mats next to it and started writing about the previous day’s adventures, then we were called to see how our food was being prepared. We walked to a pile of sand where after some explanation they cleared away the pile and took out the food from a metal barrel that had been buried in the sand. We then moved into another tent where they served us the food that had just been taken out of the ground and it was very good.

After dinner Monty bought us outside the camp to the desert to look at the stars, we walked for a few minutes from camp to lie down on some rocks and look up at the beautiful sky. We then got to see a couple shooting stars. We laid there for about an hour until we went back to the camp when we arrived, we surprise Martha for her birthday by getting her a big cake even though it was two days early.
