Day 17 – Amman to Paris

31st July 2021

Today I tried to wake up late, but I ended up waking up at 8:30, so I decided to start catching up on writing is since I was about three or four days behind. At around 10 I went downstairs to grab my breakfast and went to the reception desk where I asked where breakfast would be served. They told me to wait whilst they went to go get it from a local restaurant, they brought back a platter with a plate of houmous and tomato and onion salad, as well as Pita and some falafel. It was very good but also very filling.

After this, I headed back upstairs to take a shower in my crummy bathroom, pack my stuff and get ready for the day. Around 12 I came down from my room for checkout and left my luggage behind the reception desk and left the hotel for the adventures of the day.

I walked about 20 minutes through the centre, which was much quieter than yesterday, to the citadel. After climbing tons of stairs, I arrived there and had to fend off the tour guides who wanted to show me around. I first went to see the Roman columns overlooking the city before going to the archaeological museum and then to see the remnants of a mosque. At one point we could hear the call to prayer playing throughout the valley of Amman from multiple mosques which was quite cool. It was quite hot, so I chilled for a bit in the shade under some trees that were growing in the ruins.

Next, I decided to walk down to the Roman theatre, but on the way, I saw a painting shop that looked to have pretty paintings, so I decided to go in. I looked at everything for a while and found that there was one painting that was pretty and reminded me of the one I had gotten in Rio, so I bought it. I try to negotiate but was having a lot of trouble doing so and didn’t achieve as good of a price as I could have. I then continued down to the Roman theatre and took pictures outside but decided not to pay to get in since I was running low on funds and needed money for dinner and the taxi to the airport. After the pictures, I headed back to the hotel where I sat in the lobby for a while and wrote more trying to catch up.

At around six I go hungry but only had five dinars left, so I decided to go back for some falafel sandwiches from Al Quds, the place we had been yesterday.  I grabbed my backpack and climbed all the way up to rainbow Street, this time through the shop was empty so I didn’t have to wait 20 minutes for my sandwich! I got two and ate one on some benches where we had it eaten them the day before. I then tried to spend the rest of my money on some other snacks, I found a shop and bought some chips and still had more money, so I got another ice cream since it was exactly the amount needed for one scoop. I then walked back to the hotel whilst eating my ice cream.

Back at the hotel, I chilled once again in the lobby mostly on my phone with tik-tok and writing. I had to wait until my taxi to the airport, which was supposed to arrive at 11, however, he arrived early at around 10. I decided I may as well go there, so I got into his car on our way to the airport. Since I arrived so much earlier at the airport than planned, I had to wait for check-in to open and I ended up being the first one in the queue. After this, I went through customs and they and after they let me through, I decided to get McDonald’s.

After eating my two cheeseburgers I headed to the gate and found a lounge chair where I was able to take a quick nap before boarding. On the flight, I had difficulty sleeping mostly because the seats didn’t recline.

We arrived 15 minutes early in Vienna, but I had to rush to get to my next gate because passport control and security took forever so I thought I would miss my flight. When I got onto the plane, I could see that my luggage still hadn’t made it and I was worried that it would be left behind but five minutes before the doors close the luggage got in and I was notified by my phone.

I got lucky and the flight was quite empty, so I got three seats to myself and was able to lie down and take a nap. When we arrived in Paris, I grabbed my luggage and took the RER into Paris then had to take two other metros to get to Montparnasse before I was finally able to arrive home since everything was closed.
