Day 6 – Nile river cruise

20th July 2021

Today I was woken up by the Sun since I hadn’t closed my curtains correctly. at around 8 am I went up to the top floor to grab some breakfast with other people from the tour group, then I went back to the room to finish getting ready.

At 10 we bought our suitcases downstairs and crossed the road to the Nile where we were split up into two boats. I ended up climbing a boat with the youngest group all under 31 and all-American except for me, the boat we boarded were traditional Nile sailboats. The boat departed but was travelling upwind so it had to keep zigzagging across the Nile

At first, we talked for a while before starting a game of president, as lunch approached our support boat approached us and we tied our boat to theirs. There the three boats attached together stopped against the bank of the Nile where a bunch of kids were swimming nearby. We went upstairs on the support boat and was served our lunch.

After lunch, we decided to swim so we jumped from the upper deck of the support built into the water, after air drying since I hadn’t bought a towel our sailboat departed for the rest of our journey. There once again we continued our game of president and at one point while shuffling lost the 6 of heart card into the Nile. Our skippers even tried to turn the boat around to find the card but alas it was gone.

Around six we stopped sailing and Moored our boat on a little dune, we then decided to jump again from the top deck of the support boat but the water was much colder this time. we jumped twice including a flip before climbing the dune to take pictures of the sunset.

Dinner was held like lunch, at the top of the support boat, in the dark. After dinner, we headed back to our boat to sleep and we were given a bedsheet to lie on as well as a blanket that we would not need since it was very very hot. Before sleeping I read a bit but it was very difficult to sleep because of how hot and how noisy it was. We kept hearing different noises like the trains honking, the dogs barking and drinking water end the call to prayer. It was so hot that sweat would form and feel like phantom bugs when it would evaporate.
