Day 4 – Aswan

18th July 2021

It was quite difficult to get a good nights sleep since the train kept starting, stopping and shaking but I woke up at eight and read for a little bit until breakfast, which was served in my cabin in the same way as dinner.

After this four of us played president again in my room, but this time I ended as vice president. At around 1030 we bought our suitcases into the corridor and waited until the train arrived at the station, so we could disembark. From there we hopped onto a bus to Philae when we arrived we disembarked and climbed onboard a boat to bring us to the temple. At the temple we were the only tourist there so after a couple of photos we walked around and our tour guide gave us the history of the temple, including the fact that it had been moved due to rising waters after the building of a dam nearby.

After about two hours we headed back onto our boat then onto our bus which brought us to our hotel. We dropped off our stuff and we headed to a nearby shopping centre to find the food court but we missed it because we didn’t go to the right floor, so we ended up going to McDonald’s instead.

Once back at the hotel after lunch, I took a shower before we went to our evening activity. We walked across from the hotel onto a waiting boat, the boat drove us up and down the Nile to show us a few of the sites, after about an hour we stopped at an island and walked through a local village to watch the sunset. Next, we walked to a local families house who made us a delicious dinner on their rooftop, where we also got to see lots of cats miaowing at each other hoping to get our food.

At around eight we headed back onto the boat to the hotel ready for the next early morning.
