Day 16 – Amman

30th July 2021

After getting ready a group of us decided to go to my next hotel where we could leave their stuff during the day. The hotel I had chosen hadn’t cost me a lot of money, but it was 20-minute walk, away so I thought it would be in the centre and would be okay. We started walking down the stairs to the centre of the city which we crossed, as we continued walking through the city it started getting busier and messier. We walked past market stalls selling all kinds of stuff, including live animals and sad rabbits. Finally, after dragging my suitcase through all of this, in the centre of all this commotion, we found my hotel.

When we arrived, the receptionist didn’t speak English, so they were confused as to why there were three of us for one person room booking. We tried to explain but were unable to get our point across, so we send a message to Monty who ended up calling the hotel to explain. After spending some time dealing with this and waiting, we were bought to my room which is just a single bed and looked very sad with stains in the bathroom.

We decided to stay the least amount of time in a hotel, so we left our stuff and took our most important stuff with us as we headed out on our adventures.

First, we tried to find a market, but when we got there, it was gone, so instead we went to a café overlooking the city and got a juice. After this, as we got hungry, we found a local falafel place called Al Quds which opened at 2 where we decided to go. We got there before it opened but as soon as it was open, it suddenly became packed. We stood in line, a.k.a. a blob, and waited for 20 to 30 minutes for food. Somehow the whole group understood what order the queue was in, and we got our food. We got our sandwiches which were a bit smaller than I had thought but very good. After this, we decided to get ice cream again from Gerard.

Next, we decided to visit a local Friday market across the city. We walked for 30 minutes before reaching it. This was not a market for foreigners, only for locals, they sold all sorts of clothes who all looked to be second-hand as well as a few bits and bobs. We walked around and I ended up buying an iPhone cable and some water. Next, we walked back to rainbow Street to chill on a rooftop where we got some tea and watched one of our groups’ friend’s race on a phone.

Just before sunset, we walked to the spot where we thought we would be able to watch it, but when we got there the Sun was hidden by the surrounding buildings. So, we ended up watching it sat in the middle of a street. Then we decided to go back to the hotel for the others to get ready. We got back and went back to our room but were told by reception that guests were only allowed to stay for one hour in the room, so we chatted for some time whilst they got ready, then bought all of their stuff downstairs in the lobby where we sat and ended up playing President.

at 10:30 the taxi arrived so they grab the stuff we said goodbye as they got into their taxi and left on their way to the airport. I then went straight to bed.
