Day 2 – Cairo

16th July 2021

Today I woke up at around nine due to the cleaning lady screaming outside, I took a shower and got ready to go out. Once I was ready I headed downstairs where I crossed paths with our tour leader, his name is Meyer and we talked briefly about the plans I had for today. He recommended I not go to one of the two places I had intended on going to as it would be included later in the trip, so I had to adapt my plans.

With that news, I decided to 1st get some money and water but as I was walking some Egyptian accosted me and led me to where I could get some water, in exchange, he tried to get me into a store which I knew was a scam so I refused. I decided to head back to the hotel with my water but no money since I hadn’t found a bank. Once in the hotel, I took a nap before heading back out around lunchtime to grab something to eat.

This time I took an Uber to bring me to Zamalek island where I found a really good Greek place there I ate a delicious Slouvaki and halloumi fries. Once I finished I walked the streets until the end of the island where fortunately I wasn’t able to see the river as it was blocked by lots of restaurants. I decided to go back to the hotel so I took another Uber back each of those only costing me €1.

At 6 pm I went downstairs in the lobby and met most of the people on our tour, we had our introduction to the tour by a guide including an icebreaker to get to know everybody. After the session, we had dinner where I got a traditional Egyptian dish of meatballs in tomato sauce it tasted like there had been some cinnamon in there too. We finished dinner at 9:30 and headed back to my room to rest for a bit.
