Day 9 – Luxor to Amman

23rd July 2021

Today I was once again woken up by the wakeup call at five and got ready quickly. I dropped my luggage downstairs where I surfed the web for a bit before heading up to the roof for breakfast.

We then got on a bus and drove to the airport which had just opened for this one flight (they only had two flights today) and went through security and check-in. As we were waiting for a plane a few of us played a few rounds at President but just as it was getting good, we had to board, I was lucky, and I got a window seat in the emergency aisle, so I got to be able to take a nap.

When we arrived in Cairo, we grabbed the luggage and said goodbye to the other group members who would not be following with us. We split up into various groups, my group got into a van with a new tour guide who drove us to al Khan Khalili, a local market but since it was Friday a lot of the shops weren’t opened as people were praying.

We first went around the market whilst our new guide told us more about the area and Islam, then we went to a local restaurant where we got a chicken sandwich. Next, we decided to walk around again and see if there were any shops that were interesting, but we couldn’t find anything we particularly wanted to buy, so we decided to go back to the restaurant get some drinks and wait until we could go back to the airport.

At around one we took a bus back to the airport and left behind our temporary guide, driver and private security guide. We went through security which was difficult due to them not understanding that we were supposed to be there, and then checked in which once again was difficult because they didn’t know that vaccinated people like me didn’t have to take a PCR test to get to Jordan. After all this trouble we went through border control and left Egypt, we sat down at the food court, and I ordered a burger from Burger King after which we played more President before boarding

Our flight took an hour, and I luckily once again had an emergency exit window seat. When we landed in Amman, we were met by a representative who helped us get our Visa for free and brought to a minibus that would drive us to the hotel

As we drove, we were surprised at how modern and clean Amman was especially compared to Cairo. when we arrived at the hotel, we bought our stuff after our rooms and luckily, I got another single room. Then I went downstairs to meet three other people that were joining our tour and we were then introduced by our CEO tour guide, Monti, who gave us a quick introduction to our itinerary and what we would be doing for the next few days
