Day 3 – Pyramids

17th July 2021

Today I woke up early at 7 am and after getting ready went to the restaurant to grab breakfast, there I met some other members of my group. After finishing we went downstairs and met the remaining members we did some final logistical organisations for activities and hopped onto our bus for the day.

The bus first dropped us off at Egyptian Museum, there our tour guide brought us around and told us about the history of Egypt and of some of the pieces of the museum, which were quite old. The museum was very warm and barely had any fans. After two hours of looking at pieces including Tutankhamen’s headpiece which is made of pure gold, we headed back to the bus, which drove us to a restaurant near the pyramids with a perfect view of the pyramids and stinks. There we had a nice meal with a mixed grill and a delicious lemon and mint drink.

After leaving the restaurant full we headed to the pyramids. We drove to the security gate and went through to the great pyramid first for us to take pictures, however as soon as we exited the security we were hounded by sellers who would try to sell us anything, unfortunately, the only way to get rid of them is to ignore them as they will not stop talking to you if you give them any answer. We took pictures and got to climb a little of the great pyramid up to the entrance of the corridor leading to the tombs. Next, we visited the viewing point to see the three pyramids together

Our next stop was the small pyramid where we got to go inside the pyramid into the main chamber. The path was very short so we had to crouch down when climbing down the staircase. Once back out we took some final photos of the pyramids before heading to see the sphinx

after finishing off at the pyramids we headed to a Papyrus shop where they showed us how to make papyrus was made. I bought a beautiful painting from there.

Next, we drove to the train station where we were dropped off, we took some of our stuff and sat down in the little cafeteria to wait for our overnight train. We ended up waiting about two hours so we played some Uno in a big group of about 10 which made it a little bit more difficult to win.

Once a train arrived about 30 minutes late we hopped on and were shown to our cabins where we were served dinner similar to aeroplane food I had rice vegetables and chicken. After dinner four of us squished into a tiny cabin to play a few rounds of President which I ended winning

At about 10-ish we all headed back to our cabins to sleep ready for tomorrow.
