Day 21 – Suchitoto

9th March 2022

Today once again was an early morning, we got on our bus at 6am on our 7 hour journey to El Salvador. On the way we crossed through some areas which are clasiified as “do not travel here unless absolutly necessar” by the french government, but thankfully the police were nice and only stopped us twice to try and get bribes out of us.

When we arrived in Suchitoto our first stop in El Salvador, after dropping off our stuff at the hotel we went to a local restaurant to try a chicken dish made with a special kind of flower that grows in the region, which was nice. After lunch we decided to walk around the town, which is filled with coloufull houses and beautiful tree ligned with colorfull trees.

That afternoon we decided to go meet a local woman in her 70’s who rolls cigars, so she could show us how they are made and even give us a chance to roll them ourselves. The Cigars she sold were super cheap she would roll 25 and sell them for 5 dollars (the pack of 25).

After this we went to get dinner at a local restaurant by the side of a park, where we had Pupusas, which are corn tortillas filled with different fillings and were very tasty. They are the speciality of El Salvador.
