Day 22 – Guerilla Trails

10th March 2022

Today we decided to go on a tour to learn more about the Guerilla and the war in El Salvador. We first got to meet Don Fernando who was one of the guerilla members during the 12 year war that happened here. He told us some stories about what happened, and how and why he joined the fight. He also told us about the how the state would attack them. Next we went to the local mountains, where we hiked up a trail to see the way that guerilla members would survive in the forest. We were shown vietnamese kitchens, which hide the smoke, and the trenches and campsites the guerilla would use to stay hidden and safe.

after hearing about this we hiked the rest of the way up the hill to get a beautiful view under the heat. Thankfully after sweating a lot we were able to jump into a local waterfall to cool down.

After getting back to the city and having lunch, we decided to go visit a local community centre, where they teach everyone how to do various activities, from music to art. we learnt about why the centre was founded and how it helps the local communities. we then got to try a local moonshine made from mais, as we played cards whilst the sun was setting.
