Day 6 – Caye Caulker Snorkeling

22nd February 2022

Today I woke up early around 6:30 and decided to get out of bed and walk around before my meeting at 8am at the diving place. So i got ready, the first one in my room to do so and went out into the city. I went to get cash but ended up stopping at a Smotthie place and got a papaya, mango and lime juice which wasnt as good as what i had hoped but was decent before getting some breakfast Tacos. after a good but unususal breakfast I went to the diving place where i paid the rest of the fee for the diving tour and got fitted for my equipement before going to the Snorkeling place and waiting for the others to join me.

At around 10 we met at the Snorkeling place, where our boat captain gave us an introduction to the day’s activities, before bringing us to a nearby pier and telling us about the local protected type of fish which we could feed with small fishes in order to see them jump out of the water and try to grab it from your hand. From there we got onto our catamaran and started sailing about an hour away from our island to our first snorkeling spot.

As we arrived at the first snorkeling spot, we saw lots of nurse shark swimming around our boat, before we had even jumped in the water. we got in and were able to go swim alongside them and see them being fed next to a boat, we could get so close to them to the point we could almost reach out and touch them. We swam through different parts of the reef and got to see different wildlife, including eagle rays and stingrays. After about a 40 mins swim we got back ont he boat, which continued sailing to our next spot, whilst we lied down on the deck in the sun, getting burned.

In the next spot, we encountered a deep gorge with lots of corals, and were shown a little cavern about 6 meters down, where a school of fish would live, and you could swim through it. So after seing this I decided to give it a try and free dove down to the cavern and started crossing it, so the fish made way for me to cross it, but just as i entered, i hit my foot against something and lost one of my fins, so i decided to just continue through and back to the surface, without picking up the lost fin otherwise i may have ran out of air, but thankfully i made it out in one piece, and even got back the fin, as my guide dove down to get it. On this particular escursion we also saw a turtle just eating the seagrass.

Back on the boat we got some lunch which was chicken and rice as we went to our third and final snorkeling spot. There we got to dive as we wanted without guide, as long as we didnt go too far from the boat, and got to see lots of corals around. after a few minutes i got back on board and they started serving rum punch, which was quite good.

We got back to the island and decided to go see the sunset as a group, so we went to the top of the island and sat by the water to see it, before we went to dinner in a local seafood place, there i tried a bit of lionfish which is a venomous type of fish, from someone else plate, as i got chicken. I then decided to call it a night as I would be waking up very early tomorrow morning.
