Day 4 – Tulum Ruins

20th February 2022

Today I woke up at 6 am and couldn’t fall back asleep, so I decided to update this blog (got to be productive for my fans) before we left at 7 am for today’s adventure, visiting the Tulum Ruins. We got on the bus and drove about an hour away, but ended up being an hour early due to some changes in the local covid restrictions so we just hung about for a bit, grabbing a healthy breakfast of fanta and nuts before we were allowed into the ruins.

The ruins were very nice overlooking the oceans, with beautiful beaches and views of the coastline, we walked around the entire compound for about an hour visiting the different areas and ruins before we headed back through a longer path to the beach and then to the Bus which was going to drive us to our next location.

Our next location was going diving in some nearby cenotes, and I was afraid we were going to be bought to the same ones I had visited yesterday when diving since we turned into the same cenote area, but thankfully we ended up visiting a different cenote called Nicte Ha. This cenote was opened to the sky and had a little lake covered in water lilies on one side which was very beautiful. The water there was quite warm so we jumped in and enjoyed floating in the water for 30 mins before we left to go to the next Cenote. Our next Cenote was called Sac Actun and was located underground. to enter it we had to go through a tiny ladder in a hole in the ground, which bought us to this large cave, where in the middle was located a little lake in which Stalactites and tree roots would drop down from the ceiling and touch the edge of the water. We stayed in his cenote for 45 mins swimming around in the colder water and looking at the natural formations there before we headed back out.

Our next stop after a brief but bumpy drive was to a local restaurant where we ordered Tacos and got to try different types of meat and sauces. They were good but less good than the previous day.

Next, we headed back to Playa del Carmen and decided to go to the beach, so we walked down fifth avenue until we reached the end and went down to the beach there. We hung out there for a few hours lounging in the sun and jumped in the water, which was very warm (supposedly at 27 degrees).

for dinner, we all met up together as a group and headed together to a local restaurant, which mostly served seafood (yuck) but had a few other good small things. there our guide gave us a briefing about what would be happening the following day, and how the covid testing would happen when we cross the border, including what would happen if we were unfortunate enough to test positive. He then gave us some homework in the shape of 3 different paper forms we had to fill out and 2 digital forms and payments we had to do to make sure we would be allowed into Belize. just before going to bed that night I did a home test which thankfully was negative.
