Day 23 – Cerro Verde

11th March 2022

Today I went to get breakfast from a local bakery, before going for my morning activity, tye die in indogo using local plants that were used to create the color. I went to the shop where they explained how the plant was prepared to extract the blue color, and how that color was then used to die different fabrics. They then showed me how to prepare the scarf i would be making, by folding it and tying elastics arround it. Once i had done this we went to a bin of the liquid used for dying, where we dipped the scarf in. However the liquid was more of a green color than blue, so when you took out the fabric from the bin it would look green, until it reacted with the oxigen, at which point it would turn into a indigo blue. We repeated the process of putting the fabric in the liquid a few times to achieve the color required before we were able to see the result by removing the elastics and unfoliding it.

The next step was to clean the fabric by dunking it in water to get rid of the excess indigo before washing it with soap to make it ready. once it was clean the last step was just to let it dry and it was good to go.

For lunch we grabbed a quite sandwich before going on our bus to the next stop, a few hours away called Cerro verde.

When we arrived at cerro verde, we went to our Camp, which was basically glamping, we got our tent and had dinner before chilling around a bonfire making smores.
