Day 30 – Gravity Falls

18th March 2022

Today we decided to go do some canyoning, so we had to wake up ridiculously early once again to get on a bus to drive to the area we would be canyoning. When we got there, they gave us our equipment and after we were all ready we walked through the forest to reach the canyon where we would be canyoning. the very first thing we had to do was rappel on a 40 m high wall until we reached 3-4 m above the water where they would drop us. We then continued through the valley, following the river and regularly having to jump through different water pools, including occasionally doing flips and some Tarzan swings. After about 2 hours of activity we reached the final challenge, an 11-meter high jump into the water below, which unfortunately I messed up a little bit and didn’t land perfectly which felt like a punch in the stomach.

Following the activity we headed back to the city to get a traditional Costa Rican meal before going for our afternoon activity, sloth hunting. We went to the sloth park where we met our guide who would be finding the sloths with us. almost as soon as we entered the park we encountered our first sloth, only 2 or 3 meters above us, but it was slowly but surely climbing higher to get away from us. we continued deeper in and found 1 and a half sloth, a mommy sloth and her baby going through the branches to find some tasty leaves to snack on and share. next, we found an elusive 2 toed sloth, harder to find as they are better at hiding. however, this one didn’t seem very good at his job as he was right next to the path and almost fell 2 or 3 times. as we continued our tour we also found some other animals including some poisonous frogs and the Costa Rican Offical frog, the red-eyed tree frog.
