today we woke up at 4 am to get to our next destination and final country of this trip, Costa Rica. we drove for about 2 hours and got to the airport ridiculously early, as it should be. There we checked in and boarded our one hour flight to San Jose in Costa Rica. When we got there however we were done yet, we had to queue for immigration for an hour and a half. and that wasnt the end to our troubles because we still had a 4 hour drive to go.
Thankfully we made it one piece to Monteverde at around 3 pm and got ready for this afternoon’s activity, horseback riding through the hills of Monteverde, on a private farm. Thankfully this time my horse was a good horse, he was even called bonito which means good one. We walked in the forest much slower than we had been in honduras, and enjoyed the forest until we reached a clearing. There they made our horses go a bit faster but even that was still slower than the normal pace we had been using when i was in honduras. We watched the sunset from one of the hills before retunring and dismanteling from our horses.
After dinner, we decided to go for a night walk, where we hike around the hills of Monteverde looking for animals. we donned our headlamps and followed our guide into the forest looking for sloths, according to Mathieu my spirit animal. On our walk, we saw lots of sleeping birds, including hummingbirds and toucans. On the ground, we ended up seeing different kinds of tarantulas and scorpions, which glowed under UV light. In the trees, we saw everything that shouldn’t be in a tree, like porcupines and snakes, but unfortunately no sloths, apparently they are too fast for us.
After being disappointed in not finding any sloths, we ended our walk and headed home in our bus, only for a random sloth to decided to cross the road on telephone wires, right on the road we were taking, so we took a few snaps of its butt as it was slinking away before going home.
